ABOUT SPG in 2010

Return to 'About SPG'

SPG continues to work at finding more ways for Pacific Grove to transition, thus becoming more green and sustainable.

What we did in 2010

Broader Plans

A. Water Exhibit: The Water Group worked to outline a portable exhibit for the Museum and to be used elsewhere that will show how it is possible for individuals to recover water from the ground, from our roofs, and from, even from, our laundries. This idea has had broad support from several agencies in the County. We will continue to support this, as the several agencies come up with the money to complete the project.

B. Recycling for Apartments: The Waste Group has started working with Monterey Regional Waste Management District and Waste Management to get recycling containers placed in all multi-family units in the city.

C. Plastic Bag Ban With the failure of the State Legislature to pass a statewide ban on plastic bags, the Waste Group has continued to work with Surfrider Foundation, PG City staff, and Cedar Street Times tracking and supporting actions in support of a ban.

D. Building Energy Assessments: The Energy Group, of SPG, has started to gather information on ways to support energy assessment for buildings in PG.

On January 5, 2011, Mayor Carmalita Gracia made a written Agenda Report to the PG City Council listing the City Projects and Other Efforts Related to and in Support of Sustainable Pacific Grove. It is very interesting how many of the things that SPG is concerned and interested in are being strongly supported by our City. Read the full report here.
