~ Monterey County Gives – BIG IDEA 2018 Oak Woodland Restoration

Citizens for Sustainable Marina’s Oak Woodland Restoration Project has been selected to participate in the Monterey County Gives! 2017 campaign.  As part of this campaign, C4SM’s Big Idea for 2018 is to continue and expand work on the Oak Woodland at Locke Paddon Wetlands Park next to the library in Marina, restoring the habitat to its full potential.

The Oak Woodland started as an Earth Day project with Return of the Natives. Volunteers in the City,  C4SM, and Friends of the Marina Parks continue to plant, weed, lay wood chips and mulch, and clean up the area.  With the proceeds from the Monterey County Gives! Campaign, C4SM will:

  • add benches
  • add signage
  • organize guided nature walks with local experts on birds, insects, and plants, providing families and children with learning experiences in the woodland
  • present a workshop on Oak Trees
  • implement a program for ongoing planting and maintaince of the oaks throughout the City of Marina, including in resident’s yards.

C4SM’s goal is to make the oak woodland at Locke Paddon Wetlands Park a community eco-recreational experience where visitors can learn, take a walk, or just sit and enjoy the diverse wildlife and natural beauty.

We hope you will support us in this campaign so we can continue to restore this oak woodland and make it a beautiful space for all to enjoy.
